Tencent Holdings Ltd is a Chinese multinational conglomerate company which recently acquired Leyou. You might not recognise this name so easily but its subsidiaries will possibly jog your memory. Digital Extremes, the developers of shooting video game Warframe, runs under Leyou. Clearly, this implicates that free-to-play online Warframe is now a possession of Tencent.
Digital Extremes ensure that despite becoming Tencent property, they’re set to operate “creatively independent”. Even when Leyou bought majority shares of Digital Extremes in 2014, they operated self-reliantly. Considering that, now in 2020, Tencent acquires Leyou, it becoming parent company of Digital Extremes too.
Precisely, in the midst of big changes at the brink of 2020, Digital Extremes have assured alongside, that they plan to function as usual. Digital Extremes enunciates, “We will remain creatively independent, we expect no changes to Warframe or how our studio operates, and we will remain as dedicated ever to you, the community, who has been with us every step of the way since we launched Warframe.”
Tencent technology holds a number of globally market subsidiaries of several Internet-related services and products, including in entertainment, artificial intelligence, and other technology. In addition to these, Tencent successfully own many video games like Riot Games, Call of Duty, League of Legends etc. Leyou shareholders accepted the Tencent deal on December 11, which guaranteed fully acquisition of the firm by December 23, 2020 as part of a US$1.5 billion deal.
As for Warframe’s future aspects, the developers aim in expanding on next-generation consoles i.e. Xbox Series X/S. They assure users in innovating the game with The New War and forging ahead with intense space battles, Corpus Railjack. The devs furthermore promise more surprises in 2021.
