Starting from Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines, Darby McDevitt stayed with the franchise for 10 years until Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as a narrative director. Darby was prominent and had a major role in the franchise’s success.

In a Twitter post, he broke this surprising and solemn news, but with a smiling note as now he’s moving on from Ubisoft for a new adventure.

He writes:  “Today is my last day at Ubisoft Montreal! After a decade of working with brilliant people, creating stories & characters for an incredible series, & interacting with our wonderful fans, I have decided to set forth on a new adventure…”

Reason for leaving? Definitely not because of any issue or a fallout. It’s safe to say he wishes to experience new things. That’s why he’s leaving the franchise, which is understandable as he’s been here for the last 10 years.

10 Years With Ubisoft

His Debut in Ubisoft started as a scriptwriter for Assassin’s Creed franchise, for which he’s primarily known. They started with Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines, a PSP game, then became a lead writer of a canceled 3DS game, “Assassin’s Creed Lost Legacy.”

After these, he worked as a lead writer in major titles of the franchise Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Embers and later worked as a co-writer in Assassin’s Creed Unity and finally, his last contribution was as a narrative director in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Before Ubisoft, he was working at EA, where he worked on The Sims Bustin’ Out and sims 2, and after that, he departed from EA to join Ubisoft.

Farewell from Franchise

It was such sad and sudden news. His fans filled his Twitter with warm, heartfelt messages and tweets by fans of the Franchise.

A Ubisoft spokesperson in a statement to Eurogamer said:

“After 10 years, Darby McDevitt decided to leave Ubisoft to pursue a new adventure. Over the years, he’s inspired us with his talent for narrative, crafting incredible stories, and bringing memorable characters to life. We thank him for all of his contributions and wish him well!

Over Twitter, Assassin’s creed fans showed him gratitude and how much he means to all of them, filling his Twitter account with positive farewell messages and wishes for a hopeful future. He also showed his gratitude towards all fans and all the content creators who supported Assassin’s creed.

In a tweet, he wrote:  “A special thanks to all the fans & content creators that have supported & expanded on our work over the years. Thank you for your kind attention! You have my deepest respect & admiration. It has been the honor of a lifetime to get to know so many of you.”

Future Of Assassin’s Creed And Darby

Meanwhile, Ubisoft is planning to release an anime based on Assassin’s Creed by teaming with Netflix. Other than this, a new Assassination Creed game would possibly come out next year, and thus, the franchise would continue without Darby as the show must go on.

As for Darby, we may not know what his future endeavors, but we can only wish the best for him and hopefully will continue to relish the gaming world with his talent- that if he stays in the gaming world.
