Sony Hints At PSP Life Extension
Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House dropped a hint about the PS Vita’s console lifetime during an interview with The Guardian (UK), saying that PS Vita will have a longer lifespan than PS2 or PS3 had. The PS2 was discontinued seven years after its first launch on March 4th of 2000 in Japan; while the PS3 only had six years before it got phased out on April 1st off 2013. Meanwhile, the PS4 is also scheduled to be in service for at least 10 years starting from release date this upcoming November 15th. House also expressed his desire to extend the life cycle of PSP games sold via digital downloads on the PlayStation

Console owners were surprised when, according to a notice on the PlayStation UK website’s “important notices” page, they found out that PSP games will continue being sold through

“Though initially planned to discontinue the PS3 and Vita consoles’ store, Sony has agreed that this would be a mistake. As Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, wrote in an April 19 post on the PlayStation Blog: ‘Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here.'”

The Sony PlayStation UK website has taken an important notice page to dissipate any confusion among gamers that PSP games will no longer be available through the Playstation 3 and Vita stores. The site explicitly acknowledges that this does not mean PSP games will no longer be sold through the Playstation 3 and Vita stores, but instead it means that only digital versions of PSP games

According to the ResetEra forum, an update to the page states that users will still be able to buy and download games throughout both PSP and Vita stores on PSN. However, in-game purchases are no longer available for games running on PSP store content.

Although this appears to have been deleted and Google cache shows it was added on June 28, Sony has confirmed they will continue selling PSP games on the PS3 and Vita stores. This is despite the fact that you can’t buy PSP games in the PlayStation Store anymore, a decision by Sony Japan which went into effect at midday today, July 2nd 2018
