Microsoft unveiled Windows 11 during a virtual event Thursday, showing off the operating system’s new features coming to PCs. Microsoft also announced that these new features were already available on their Xbox games console.
Windows 11 will include two new gaming features: Auto HDR and DirectStorage.
Auto HDR is a feature that lets Windows handle high dynamic range – the ability for light to change in brightness levels across various ranges – automatically. All you have to do is turn on the feature and it will detect what kind of display hardware your computer has, then either enable or disable HDR dynamically. DirectStorage is a feature in the Xbox gaming series that loads assets directly to the graphics card instead of through the CPU. This prevents the processor from being bogged down.
The Xbox App will be incorporated into Windows 11 and Xbox’s Game Pass subscribers are able to access the service from their PC as well. Additionally, any player with an Xbox subscription can stream games via the cloud. Cross-play for consoles and PCs is also available as a result of this change.
Windows 11 will be the next version of their operating system. While there’s no release date yet, it will most likely be available by the end of 2016.
