Plot
The story revolves around Ravka, a Russian Empire kingdom. The setting is a war-torn world, with the Shadow Fold separating the eastern and western parts of the kingdom. The protagonist, Alina Starkov, finds that she can do magic and create light. As she tries to save everyone from the disastrous and dangerous world, she finds challenges previously unanticipated. She starts to find materials that will help her survive amid the chaos.

The protagonist character is being played by Jessie Mei Li, while her younger self is being played by Kaylan Teague. The other main characters will feature Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, and Ben Barnes. Recurring characters will be played by Simon Sears, Sujaya Dasgupta, Danielle Galligan, Daisy Head, and many more. The eight episodes were shot primarily in Hungary, and additional shoots took place in Vancouver.
