Mining for Bitcoin in a 40 years old machine?! Seems impossible, but yes, it’s possible! But there’s a catch and it’s hilarious.
First, let’s talk about how the mining of bitcoin works.

So last month this YouTuber named “stack smashing” figured out a way to mine bitcoin using an original game boy console. Of course the console had to be modified as there’s no internet connection in the Game boy, so first, he needed to modify it.
“Nintendo’s portable game console is capable of pumping out 0.8 hashes per second, which when compared to a current-gen ASIC miner which pumps out around 100 terahashes per second… the GameBoy is 125 trillion — or 125,000,000,000,000x slower than the current-gen ASIC miner”, They wrote.
For those who don’t know how fast it is, with this breathtaking speed the console would be able to mine a single coin in around a few quadrillion years. For reference, the sun would die in 5 billion years, but this bad boy will be able to produce one bitcoin in 1000,000 Billion years. Breathtaking speed!
The Hilarious Case of Commodore 64
While Game boy might take a while to mine a bitcoin, you can mine bitcoins at a faster rate than that! The YouTuber named Robin in his YouTube channel “8-Bit Show And Tell” enlightened us about the way to mine the bitcoin in this 40 years old beast.
Using Bitcoin miner 64, the MOS 6510 processor in Commodore 64 delivers a hash every 3.5 seconds or 0.3 h/s. How fast is it? Pretty fast as compared to a Game boy. Not in a few quadrillion years, but with this machine, you will be able to produce a bitcoin in around 50 trillion years,
