Four years back when Destiny 2 was released in 2017, there were a lot of expectations from Bungie, the game developer for it’s new venture. The players expected for the tying up of the loose ends from the original destiny. But instead the brief campaign mode created different storylines, with a lot more loose ends. The game nonetheless found a fair number of players. However, the developers kept on their good work and finally after the game was made free to play in 2019, the players soared. The developers also did a great job in engaging the players, by providing regular updates and expansions. The expansions were praised all over the playing community, especially the latest one beyond light, which was released under the troublesome pandemic situation. Destiny 2, Is it still going strong ?
It has been four years since the game was released. The game was initially criticised for its concise campaign and storyline. However the developers have worked well enough, and the game is still alive after all those years. In fact six months after it’s release Destiny 2 claimed to have a pool of 8.8 million players, this number has been well surpassed since 2019 however.
In November 2020, the Playstation players alone accounted to about twenty one million. With another 100 thousand active players according to steam charts. In fact destiny 2 even has a place in the top ten games of steam charts by the number of active players. In January 2021 the game saw an average traffic of more than 54 thousand players.
This is a significant amount of playing community for a game that was struggling in its earlier days.
Why is the game still popular in 2021 ?
The popularity can be attributed entirely to the hardworking team at bungie. After the initial setbacks, the developers continued to build upon and provide quality expansions and updates.
This has led to a greater player integration. The season released by the developers has high replayability value. That makes the players engaged.
So, bungie has done a great job to keep destiny 2 alive for so long, and looking at the plans of the developers it seems this isn’t stopping just now. 2021 sure seems like a bright year for destiny 2….
