World of Warcraft or WoW is an MMORPG (massively-multiplayer online role-playing game) multiplayer mode game. It falls under the series of Warcraft, and its developer and publisher are Blizzard Entertainment. There are two types of downtime, namely in-game and server. In most cases, the game servers are paused for a while for maintenance or servicing purposes. This is the server downtime. Here, the game servers are restricted from accessing due to which players can neither login nor play the game in that particular duration.

Most of the downtimes are scheduled beforehand. Thus players will have the information regarding it. It comes either through the in-game notification or the game’s official posts. However, under breakage or other such circumstances, the downtime will be a surprise to many. Whatever the reason may be, players have to wait for that whole while regaining access to the game.

Blizzard Entertainment has an official service status forum, where one can keep an eye on the upcoming downtimes. Players will also get an in-game message while login in for the same, and it arrives a couple of hours before the outage. If there occurs an outage without prior intimation, then it won’t last for long. Blizzard employees are quite active when it comes to looking out for server maintenance.

The players can access the game after downtime in any one of the following ways only.

  • Rolling Restart – US and Oceanic servers go down at 5 am and 2 pm Pacific Time, respectively. Here, the servers restart within 15 mins after the servers are back online.
  • Realm Maintenance – Both the US and Oceanic servers go down by 5 am of Pacific Time on the maintenance day. It takes 6 long hours to get them right.
  • Extended Realm Maintenance – Here, both the US and Oceanic servers go down together, sharp at 3 am of Pacific Time, and revive after 8 hours.

The most recent maintenance time in World of Warcraft was one of their weekly maintenance. The schedule dates back to yesterday, which is 19th Jan 2021. The total duration for it was 1 hour, and thus, it ended at 8 am.
