A game-breaking bug in Destiny 2 has Bungie turning off text chat.
Bungie has had to disable text chat in Destiny 2 because of a bug that is causing players to crash the game.
In the FPS game, nefarious players are exploiting a bug in Destiny 2 that allows them to cause another player’s game to crash by sending them a harmful text message. Bungie has disabled game text chat functionality across all platforms while they look into the situation and prepare a solution.
Both the Destiny 2 forums and the game’s subreddit were flooded with reports of a text chat bug. They discovered that if a certain text string was included in the chat window, anybody who saw it would immediately crash and get the Weasel error notice.
Some people in Destiny started to send secret messages to their opponents during PvP games, which caused the other players’ games to crash because the message was too long. This gave the sender an easy victory. Some players have said that turning off your chat does not fix the problem, because the communications are sent to your character instead of being shown to you.
Bungie tweeted that they were looking into the problem, and then shortly afterward it was reported to be fixed. announced that they “have temporarily disabled text chat on all platforms in Destiny 2 while we investigate an issue causing Weasel errors.”
