IT was announced on Tuesday that the 2022 season’s second major will be held at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. According to ESL Gaming, the Intel Extreme Masters Rio 2022 event will begin on Oct. 31 and continue until Nov. 13.
The IEM Rio 2022 major has been one of the most anticipated events in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive since January, It will be the second major of the year, coming after PGL Major Antwerp 2022, where FaZe Clan took home the title.

The event was originally known as ESL One: Rio 2020, which was announced by the organization in 2015. The tournament was called off due to COVID-19 concerns. This 2022 major will take the place of ESL One. It will be ESL’s tenth major since DreamHack Winter 2013 became the organization’s very first CS:GO grand slam event.
“We couldn’t be more excited to finally bring the major to Rio de Janeiro,” Ulrich Schulze, SVP product management at ESL Gaming, said in a press release. “The ever-growing and passionate Brazilian esports community is amazing and for the past couple of years we have been hoping to provide the fans with one of the greatest esports experiences ever.”
The event will be the 18th CS:GO major. The prestigious trophy, which will also count towards Intel Grand Slam points, will be contested by twenty-four teams in the tournament. On top of the base prize pool, an additional $1 million may be at stake.
The group stage at this major will be identical to the PGL Major Antwerp, with Swiss-style Challengers and Legends stages preceding a single-elimination playoffs. The IEM Road to Rio events leading up to the major will be referred to as regional majors.
This will the first CS:GO major to be held in South America and will take place at the IEM Rio 2022. Brazil has long been one of the most passionate Counter-Strike fans. Many people predict big viewing figures and an enthusiastic live audience from Brazilian spectators.
IEM Rio 2022 tickets will go on sale at 1 p.m. ET on May 25, according to ESL. And the good news for anyone who still has an ESL One ticket may use it at IEM Rio 2022.
