EA announces Apex Legends has arrived on mobile

This week in iOS gaming, we learned that Apex Legends Mobile will be released on May 17, that the developer behind Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is working on a Lord of the Rings game, and that the creator of League of Legends: Wild Rift is suing an alleged copycat. Plus! Here are our picks for what’s fresh and fun to play this week on your iPhone and iPad. Let’s get this party started, shall we? Apex Legends Mobile will be released on May 17th.

Apex Legends Mobile, the smash battle royale shooter that has been tearing up consoles and PC for years, is coming to iPhones and iPads on May 17, according to publisher EA. Since February, it’s been playable in ten countries as EA proceeded to test and adjust the game in preparation for a global release. Of course, it’s not the same game you’d find on a PC or console; it was created expressly for mobile devices by the same team who brought you PUBG Mobile. It features simplified on-screen controls and custom interactions that make playing on a touchscreen as simple as playing with a controller or keyboard and mouse. We’ll have to wait and see if they succeed at launch, but in the meanwhile, I had a chance to play the soft launch version earlier this year, just as the game was entering testing on the Australian App Store. You can see it in the video below.
